The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is now accepting applications for its 63rd Graduate Study Programme (GSP), scheduled from June 30 to July 11, 2025. This esteemed two-week summer seminar offers postgraduate students a unique opportunity to deepen their understanding of the United Nations system and the broader landscape of international relations in Geneva.

Programme Overview

The 2025 GSP centers on the theme: "UN80: United for a Better Future," commemorating the United Nations' 80th anniversary. Participants will engage in:

  • Morning Lectures: Sessions led by UN representatives, diplomats, and civil society leaders, providing insights into the UN's role in global governance.
  • Workshops and Institutional Visits: Hands-on experiences at key international organizations in Geneva, fostering a comprehensive understanding of their operations.
  • Afternoon Group Projects: Collaborative research focusing on the "Pact for the Future" and its annexes, including the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. This student-led initiative encourages in-depth exploration of contemporary global challenges.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: Between 22 and 32 years old.
  • Academic Status: Currently enrolled in a graduate program (master's or doctoral level).
  • Employment: Not engaged in full-time employment.
  • Language Proficiency: Fluent in both written and spoken English; knowledge of French is advantageous.

The selection committee evaluates candidates based on academic achievements, extracurricular activities, relevant professional experience, language skills, and motivation. Efforts are made to ensure gender and regional diversity among participants.

Application Process

Applications are accepted from December 18, 2024, to February 28, 2025 (12 noon Geneva time). Only complete applications submitted before the deadline will be considered. Notably, candidates are discouraged from using AI-enabled tools, such as ChatGPT, to draft their motivation letters or other application components. If such tools are used, applicants must clearly indicate their purpose.

Financial Considerations

Participation in the GSP is free of charge. However, participants are responsible for their own expenses, including visa fees, travel, accommodation, and living costs in Geneva. UNOG does not provide scholarships or sponsorships for these expenses.
